O2U
“What did he say the last time you talked with him?” asks Matt to Phil with somewhat of a panicking tone.
Phil turns towards Matt, as Phil, Matt, Jon, and I talk inside my garage, and Phil answers Matt, “I told you, not much. Bakari said that he would be in touch with us and I haven’t heard from him for a couple days now.”
“When was that? When did you talk with him?” asks Matt to Phil.
Phil looks at me with an annoyed expression. I look at Matt and answer, “We’ve already been through this. Phil talked with Bakari two days ago and we haven’t heard from him since he got the power back on.”
“There has been a lot of different noises and gunfire recently since the power came back on,” says Shaun.
BOOM!
The sound of a loud explosion far away from Citrus Oaks is heard.
The guys and I exit my garage, through my opened garage door, and we look towards the back of our neighborhood where the explosion was heard. I look beyond the trees at the back of our neighborhood and see some black and gray smoke in the distance.
“Get a drone over there,” says Phil.
Matt runs across the street to his house.
“That smoke has to be coming from the electric company,” says Shaun.
“What should we do Ry? Stay here like we’ve been doing?” asks Jon.
I look at Phil, then Shaun, and then Jon, and answer, “Let’s wait to see what Matt finds with his drone.”
Matt exits from his garage and his drone takes flight.
“Come in Ryan are you there Ryan?” asks someone over the radio.
I pick up my radio and answer, “This is Ryan.”
“You might want to check out the electric company. Your friends in the black masks might be in trouble,” says a male voice over the radio.
“Who is this?” I ask into my radio.
“It’s Hector,” answers the male voice over the radio.
I look at Phil and then ask into my radio, “What do you know? Did you see them there or something?”
“Hold on, I’m right by your neighborhood. It’s better if we talk in person,” answers Hector over the radio.
I walk towards Bobby G’s house and wait for Hector near Bobby G’s oak tree.
Jon walks over to Matt as Matt controls his drone from his driveway.
Phil calls for Bakari and the Ghosts over the satellite phone, but no one answers his call.
Shaun walks over to me and asks, “Do you think Bakari was attacked?”
While looking at the closed entrance gate to Citrus Oaks, I answer Shaun, “I don’t know.”
Minutes go by, which feel like hours, and then finally the entrance gate to Citrus Oaks opens and I see a black sedan stopped by our guards.
I jog down the street and Phil comes over to Shaun.
Our entrance guards look at me and ask, “Do you know this guy?”
I see that it’s Hector in the driver seat of the black sedan and I answer, “Yeah, let him in.”
Hector parks his black sedan in front of Kiersten and Sam’s house.
Hector and another man exit from the black sedan.
“Ryan, this is Enrique,” says Hector.
I see that it’s Enrique from the Haven and I reply, “I know him, he’s been here before.”
“Oh sorry. I can’t remember who you know and don’t know,” replies Hector.
“What was that explosion?” I ask.
“Not sure, but it had to be from the gunfire and fighting we heard around the water treatment plant and electric company,” answers Hector.
“What did you see?” I ask.
Hector answers, “Enrique and I were making our way back to the Haven, but we had to take the long route because of the water flooding some of the streets still.”
“Did you see the Ghosts?” I ask.
Enrique answers, “We saw people fighting, but couldn’t make out who was winning.”
Shaun and Phil come over to Enrique, Hector, and me.
“Still no answer from the Ghosts. This can’t be good,” says Phil.
“I’m thinking we should go check out the explosion,” says Shaun to me.
“What did Matt find out with the drone?” I ask.
“Nothing yet, he hasn’t made it to the smoke yet,” answers Shaun.
I look at Hector and ask, “What did you actually see when you were driving?”
“We saw some military people fighting inside the electric company property. We kept our distance and kept driving and then there was a huge explosion on the electric company property,” answers Hector.
I look at a streetlamp, inside Citrus Oaks, that turned on after Bakari got the power back on and it’s still on. “I think the power is still on, so I guess the main building of the electric company is okay,” I say.
Sam exits from her house, through her front door, with her gear on. Shaun asks Sam, “Do you still have power?”
“Yeah, the lights flickered for a second, but we still have power. Everything okay?” answers Sam.
“Where are you going?” I ask Sam.
“Out for a supply run. We need a couple things,” answers Sam.
“By yourself?” I ask Sam.
Enrique looks at Sam and likes what he sees.
“Yeah, I like to go by myself. It’s easier to get around,” answers Sam.
“It’s dangerous out there. I could come with you and protect you,” says Enrique to Sam with a cheesy flirty tone.
Sam smirks and replies, “No thanks.”
Sam sees that Enrique is looking at her like a piece of meat and says, “I’ll be fine on my own, and I like girls.”
Sam walks away from us.
“I like girls also,” jokes Enrique.
Jon, who is standing next to Matt in Matt’s driveway, shouts, “You guys gotta see this!”
Shaun and Phil walk over to Jon and Matt.
I walk over to Sam, who is near our closed main entrance gate and say, “You really shouldn’t go out alone.”
“I’ll be fine. I have a small quiet spot that not a lot of people know about,” replies Sam.
I look at Sam with a concerned expression.
“I’ll be safe. All the noises, church bells, and sirens have made a lot of the area around here pretty low in zombies now,” says Sam.
Sam looks at the guard to open the main entrance to Citrus Oaks.
I don’t feel right that Sam is going out by herself.
“Close the gate,” I order the guards, and the guards look at me as the main entrance gate is slightly open.
Sam looks at me and says, “I can just hop over the West Entrance Ryan.”
“I can’t have you getting injured Sam,” I say to Sam.
“It’s sweet that you care, but I’m going one way or another,” replies Sam.
“Ryan! You have to see this!” shouts Shaun as he stands near Bobby G’s front yard.
I turn towards Shaun and shout, “I’ll be right there!”
I turn back towards Sam and she’s gone. I walk through our slightly opened main entrance gate and see Sam walking in the grass that’s along our exterior front entrance cinderblock walls.
“You better be back in an hour or I’m sending people out for you!” I shout to Sam.
“I’ll be back!” shouts Sam as she keeps walking in the grass outside of Citrus Oaks.
I walk back into Citrus Oaks and say to the guards, “See which way she goes, but don’t follow her.”
I run down the street and meet up with Shaun, Phil, Matt, Jon, Enrique, and Hector in Matt’s driveway.
“What do we got?” I ask.
“It’s not good. I see tons of dead soldiers and a couple dead Ghosts,” answers Matt.
“Bakari, Saba, or anyone we know?” I ask.
Matt continues to scan the area with his drone camera, but he doesn’t see Bakari or anyone that we know.
“Was this DK?” asks Jon.
Enrique looks at Hector and Phil notices the look that Enrique and Hector have on their faces.
“What’s going on guys? What do you know?” asks Phil to Hector and Enrique.
I notice that Hector and Enrique don’t answer Phil.
BEEP! BEEP!
A vehicle horn is beeping outside of the main entrance of Citrus Oaks.
Shaun, Phil, and I look at the main entrance.
“Stop beeping!” shouts a Citrus Oaks front entrance guard, as he stands on the platform near our main entrance gate, at the vehicle outside of Citrus Oaks.
I pick up my radio and ask, “Who is beeping at the front gate?”
An entrance guard answers over the radio, “I don’t know. But they are in two black SUVs.”
I run down to the main entrance gate, jog up one of the platforms, and I see two all-black SUVs. I shout to the guards, “Open the gate!”
Two entrance guards open the main entrance gate and the two all-black SUVs speed into Citrus Oaks.
I run down the platform steps and over to the all-black SUVs.
Cyrus, Bakari, Saba, and Ayo exit from the SUVs and they are in rough shape.
Phil and Shaun join me as I ask Bakari, “Are you okay? Does anyone need medical attention?”
“We are good, but we lost some people today,” answers Bakari.
“What happened?” asks Shaun.
“We were working on getting the power corrected to the last remaining areas and we were attacked by some military group,” answers Bakari.
I see that Bakari and his group are okay, but that Cyrus is bleeding from his left arm.
“What happened big man?” I ask Cyrus.
Cyrus looks down at his very large left arm and sees the blood and answers, “It’s probably from the explosions, but I’m okay.”
“What was the explosion? We saw the smoke from here,” says Phil.
“We had to blow the main entrance doors to the electric company building,” answers Saba.
“Why?” I ask.
“To make sure they couldn’t get to the panels and stop the electricity from getting around Tampa Bay like they did before,” answers Saba.
Enrique and Hector walk over to us. Cyrus looks at Enrique and Hector and gives them a mean look.
“I’m glad you guys are okay,” says Hector.
“Do we know you?” asks Ayo to Hector.
“I’m Hector and this is Enrique,” answers Hector.
The Ghosts look at Hector and Enrique and size them up.
“They are from the Haven,” I say.
“Is he the guy you beat up?” asks Bakari to me.
Hector gets embarrassed and says, “We are going to head back home.”
I look at Hector and say, “Tell William that we want to meet with him soon and to call us to set up a day to meet.”
“Will do. See you guys later,” replies Hector and then Hector and Enrique get into their black sedan and exit Citrus Oaks.
“That’s the guy you choked out at the Haven,” says Bakari to me.
“Yeah, but Hector is a good guy. We are in a better place now,” I reply.
Matt and Jon come over to us and Matt asks, “What happened at the electric company?”
“Do you have some place we can talk?” asks Bakari.
“Yeah, follow me,” I answer Bakari, and then I take everyone into Bobby G’s house.
The Ghosts and my guys and I get settled in Bobby G’s living room and Bakari says, “We have a problem, a big problem.”
I look at Bakari and wait for him to further explain.
“The electric company is just the start of the government and military trying to take control of things around here and all over the U.S.,” says Bakari.
“What did you find out?” I ask.
“There are at least two groups around here trying to control everything,” answers Bakari.
“We know of the Conquerors,” I say.
“They are low level doc. The groups we found out about are two different military outfits. One is definitely working with the government and the other we aren’t sure who they are working for,” replies Bakari.
“I knew it,” says Shaun.
We all look at Shaun.
“You didn’t know shit,” says Phil to Shaun.
“What? I did, I knew there would be some government military group trying to control things,” replies Shaun.
I look at Shaun and ask, “Why didn’t you say something to us then?”
“I didn’t know specifics, but I figured that this zombie shit was started by the government and they are trying to control everything now,” answers Shaun.
“That’s a very vague statement,” says Saba to Shaun.
“It does make sense though. The government may or may not have started all this, but I’m sure they are trying to reap all the benefits and control this new world now,” says Jon.
“They definitely are. We saw a warehouse full of food, weapons, supplies, and really everything you would need to survive for the next fifty years,” says Bakari.
“Where?” I ask.
“It’s a huge warehouse and facility in Apollo Beach,” answers Bakari.
I think about what is in Apollo Beach, and I remember that there is a huge facility and warehouse there and ask, “On the O2U campus and fulfillment center?”
“Yup,” answers Bakari.
“Like the huge online company O2U?” asks Jon.
“Yeah, they are using the huge facility in Apollo Beach that was built a couple years ago. They still have power and everything there. It’s a pretty sweet setup they have,” answers Saba.
“You saw it?” asks Phil.
“We got on the campus. That’s how we got the key to unlock the device that was blocking the power from getting around Tampa Bay,” answers Saba.
Bakari gets a call on his satellite phone, and he answers his phone and exits the living room.
“So who is at the O2U campus?” asks Phil.
“A lot of people but we mostly saw tons of government officials, people from every branch of the U.S. military, and the families of those people,” answers Saba.
“How did you
get in there?” I ask.
“We got a keycard to the facility and we got right in. All you need is one of their keycards and they’ll let you on the campus,” answers Saba.
“How far away is the facility?” asks Phil.
“About an hour,” I answer.
Bakari enters the living room and says, “Let’s go guys. We have to get back home.”
“Everything okay?” I ask Bakari.
“Yeah, my brother is a little tired is all,” answers Bakari.
Saba, Ayo, and Cyrus stand up in Bobby G’s living room.
“My brother wants to see you. He says it’s important to see you very soon,” says Bakari to me.
“Just let me know when you want us to come by and we’ll come by your downtown building that you took us to before. Is your brother still there?” I reply to Bakari.
“Yeah, he is still there. I’ll be in touch and let you know when he is able to meet with you,” says Bakari.
“Sounds good. I’m glad you guys are okay and I’m sorry that you lost some people today,” I say.
“Me too, but I’m sure it won’t be the last people that we lose. It may only be the start,” replies Bakari.
The guys and I say goodbye to Bakari and the Ghosts and then Bakari and the Ghosts exit Bobby G’s house and then exit Citrus Oaks.
“They took over the O2U facility. That’s crazy,” I say to the guys as we talk inside Bobby G’s living room.
“I should still be an Ultimate Member. You think they would let me into the facility?” jokes Jon.
“I was an Ultimate Member as well, but I doubt they care about those things now,” I reply.
“I saw two O2U vans in a nearby shopping center. You think we could drive them onto the campus?” asks Shaun.
I can’t tell if Shaun is joking or not and I ask, “You serious?”
Shaun looks at our faces to see if it was a dumb question or not. “I don’t know about getting onto the campus, but let’s check out the vans and see if they have any packages on them,” says Phil.
“You want to go now?” asks Matt.
“Yeah, it’s still light out,” answers Phil.
“They are right down the street. It should be an easy trip,” says Shaun.
“Take a couple people with you just to be on the safe side,” I say.
Shaun and Phil exit from Bobby G’s house.
